International shipping cost estimator

Before you book

• These are published estimates, not quotes. Movers and comparison sites publish them, and they often disagree by a factor of two. Get at least three written quotes that list what's included.
• Check what "door to door" includes. Some prices are port to port. Many leave out import duty and taxes, insurance, storage, quarantine or inspection fees, destination port charges, and charges for stairs or a long carry.
• Import duty and VAT are separate. If you're changing residence, a relief may remove them. Shipping your things abroad explains the EU, UK and Mexico reliefs.
• Volume drives the price. Bedrooms are a rough guide, and sources disagree on how much a home holds. A survey, in person or by video, gives the real volume.
• Season matters. May to September is peak season. Sirelo's UK site says moving outside it saves about 17%. Transit times are usually sea time to the port only; customs and delivery add more. Shared containers wait to fill, so they take longer.
• Freight prices moved sharply in 2026. Drewry's World Container Index stood at $4,429 per 40ft container on 29 Oct 2026 (Drewry). A price published in spring may already be out of date.
• Insurance is extra. Published rates run from about 1% to 5% of what you declare your things are worth. Goods you pack yourself cost more to insure.
• Regions are broad. A region's range may rest on one or two countries. Each source below says which countries it actually priced.

How this works

We read the price guides that movers, comparison sites and USPS publish, 7 publishers in all, and recorded each figure with its date, its currency and the countries it covers. We asked no mover for a quote and we don't rank movers. Where sources disagree, the range runs from the lowest figure to the highest. Where no source priced a route, we say so instead of guessing. Amounts are converted at the European Central Bank's rates for 30 Oct 2026.
