How this works
We use the World Bank's price levels for household spending. They compare what the same basket of goods and services, rent included, costs in each country at market exchange rates. If a country's price level is 65% of yours, living the same way there costs about 65% of what you spend now.
- National averages. Capital cities and beach towns popular with movers usually cost more than the national figure, rent most of all.
- 2025 figures. Prices and exchange rates move. Treat the results as a first sort, then price a real flat and a real weekly shop where you'd live.
- Income figures. We compare your income with the figures for remote-work, retirement and freelance routes. Job-offer routes are left out, because their figure is the salary in the new country. The figures come from our routes table, checked against each government's own pages. We convert them at the same 2025 exchange rates, so a result close to the line needs a check at today's rate. Many routes ask for more per family member, and meeting the figure is only one of the requirements.
